Empowering You

An Engaging Place to Grow and Discover New Opportunities

I am sure you will agree, the prominent buzz word for the day is "change". We as nation/ children of God are wanting change; in our government, in our school systems, in our communities, in our homes. More often than not, when you hear one comment on the need to change, it is in reference to someone else. We tend to be like those referred to in a parable spoken by Jesus. In Matthew 7: 3, we are cautioned not to be as the one who addressed the mote in the eye of his brethren and not focus on the removal of the beam in our own eye. (paraphrased)

There is a special book dear to my heart: "Lord Change Me" by Evelyn Christensen. Just as the title implies, the starting point for change should first be inside; within each individual. When I find myself finding fault with things/people around me, I remember this book and begin to search myself for the imperfections that need attention. The good news is, when I began to allow God's word to mirrior the things in me that warrant change, and I make a choice to allow those changes, the atmosphere around me takes on a new flavor! Sometimes, it is not those around us that need to change, it is our attitudes, actions, need overhaul!

I am in no way implying that there are not areas in our lives, that need change. We are facing such huge challenges in the economy, in our government, and so on and so on. What I am saying is, if we focus first on what changes we need/can make, the ball of change begins to roll.

Ms Christensen was in constant conflict with her teenage daughter, and nothing she "said" or did seem to have a positive effect. As she began to go into her prayer closet, words of wisdom came instructing her to do something different. (Note: I am a living witness that when we still away in prayer, the first point of revelation points to use showing us where we need change). In her case she began to say little to nothing. As her attitude change to focusing on what she should do or not do, guess what? The daughter's response to her changed! Her behavior changed!
